Group assessment

Group Assessment Form

how your group can work better?

if everyone listened to each other and took notes of other peoples ideas
if people learned the cues and lines earlier we could of rehearsed more on bringing the lines to life instead of just saying them.
Furthermore if we had a run through of the shows more then twice we would of made more progress,
also if students came after school to rehears (to perfect) their scenes.
Not being on phones
Make sure that what we offer is the best we can do
Work as an ensemble
Respect each other
You have to be able to receive and react, for example if someone throws a stage punch you cant just walk off stage and cat like nothing happened
You need to be able to be vulnerable and strong

How do you think your piece could of been improved?

If people knew their entrances and exits
If people were in roles and and performed their lines not just said them
If people stayed in role for the whole performance even when they were walking off stage
If we knew where we were performing the entire

Family within the play

Family within the play

Whose my family?

My only family is the fairies as i spent my entire life with them: Peaseblossem, Musturdseed, Dewdrop, Cobwed and especially Titania she is my leader she also takes care of us

who are your friends

I don't really have any friends beside from the fairies but I see them as my family, I don't like to go outside the fairy realm because the humans don't about us.

who are your acquaintances?

I don't really get out lot to meet new people so unfortunately the fairies are the only people I communicate with.

who are your enemies/who do you openly dislike?

I openly dislike Oberon and his group of fairies this because they always upset my fairy queen and my job is to protect her and keep her happy

who do you openly like?

I openly like Titania not because I have to but because she is genuinely a really nice person and she cares for all her fairies and actually likes us.

who do you secretly like?

I secretly like puck she is so sneaky and it seems like she has a lot of fun, I want to be just like her but I cant tell Titania or the rest of the fairies or they will think I'm betraying them. But I'm not because I just want to have some fun with my job.

who do you secretly dislike?

I secretly dislike some of the fairies because I put a lot of effort into my work whereas they don't put in any at all and it makes me frustrated.

Diary entry

Dear diary,
This is my first diary entry so I should introduce myself, my name is Moth and I am a fairy. My whole life consists on serving and protecting my queen Titania she is the head fairy who keeps order between the us.
I am an only child unfortunately, I always wanted siblings.
My mother died when I was about 5 from an illness and from then I was always looked after by the other fairies, in our realm we always stick together no matter what happens.
My job as well as serving Titania is to collect dew drops from the plants. I love my job because I just love flowers and the soft feeling of them.
My biggest fear is the mortals finding us and hunting us down but they cant see us which is good, I don't like them coming into our part of our forest it belongs to us. I especially hate it when they disturb me from sleeping.

lighting and sounds

Lighting
I believe that the lighting should depend on the situation, so when the fairies are dancing the lighting should be different colours and be flashing on and off to show how fun the party is.

When the the couples/ lovers are fighting the lighting shouldn't be very bright as it should reflect how the characters are felling on the inside.

Sounds we used in the play

for effect when we where in the forest we had a backing track of birds tweeting, the winds and sometimes we could hear crickets.
further more the mechanicals we had comedic music because the mechanicals were the main humorous part of the show, therefore the music gave the audience a sense of what their scenes were going to be about

Music

Music
There could be many points where music can be played during a midsummer nights dream,
for example when Titania's fairies and Oberon's fairies are have a face off the music would be loud and aggressive.

When the Helena is trying to get Demtrius' attention the song "don't you want me" could be playing because it links to the situation she is in, as she loves Demtrius but he doesn't love her.

fairies in our world

Fairies in our world

Fairies in our world, are not your average fantasy fairies, they do not have any wings.
But in the modern day Goth's may be seen as fairies because they dress differently.
Although nowadays fairies are not fun and colourful any more e.g. like Tinkerbell they are more like goblins and elves .

In our performance the fairies are going to be presented by goths, Titania's goths willk be cyber goths

Oberons are gonna be dark goths

Immortality

I believe that immortality is not a good thing because no one actually is happy when they are immortal this is because everyone they live would die, and eventually they would get bored with life.
Furthermore they would of experienced everything before meaning nothing would be special and eventually they would loose the meaning of life.

I think that the difference between mortals and immortals are that the mortals value life much more. Also when they do things that they can't do again they complete it with alot of passion because they know they will never have the experience to do it again

animal within character

Animals within characters
For this exercise we had to pick out an animal who we suspect would be in forest I chose a rabbit, we then had to become and act like that animal.
So I acted very shy and scared when another animal came towards me this is because when rabbits are in danger of predators this normally get scares and hide.
This links to my character because I'm scared of humans and don't like them coming to our part of the forest

Thrust theatre

Thrust Theatre Monday lesson

In today's lesson we discussed how we would act and portray our character in a thrust theatre.
We learnt that in that type of Theatre we need to make sure that all of the audience can see you and hear you clearly

In the exercise amber had to perform one of Pucks speeches the first time she read it she was looking on the floor and her voice was quiet and she was mumbling, this was difficult for me to understand ad part of the audience because I could feel any of her emotions and I could hardly hear, meaning it was difficult for me to understand what was was going in that moment of the play.

example of a thrust Theatre
When she performed again we asked her to add in gestures, make eye contact with the audience, walk around and speak with emotion and energy. This helped me understand the character and what they are feeling all together being more effective

vowels and consonant

Vowels and consonant

On Mondays lesson the first thing we did in pairs was we had an argument using just the vowels and just the consonants, I thought using the consonants were easier because there was more letters I could use and express mu feelings.
We then in pairs had to flirt using vowels and consonants again, I thought the vowels were much easier in this exercise
We learnt that the vowels I'm the word were the letters that contained the feelings.

For the next exercise we got an extract from the script and we had to say the lines only using the vowels and emphasize them

Tactics (Monday lesson)

Tactics
In the beginning of Monday's lesson the first thing we did was the Shakespeare game where we would walk around and our teacher would say the name of a character and each character had a specific action we would have to perform. These characters and their actions are:

  • Helena: we would act really stroppy
  • Macbeth: We would shush everyone
  • Romeo and Juliet: Get into pairs and pretend to die
  • Hamlet: We have to say "to be or not to be that is the question"
  • The tempest: Everyone would lay on the floor and the teacher would walk around tapping people, and when you were tapped you have to start a sound scape for a storm.
Two students then created two more characters which were;
  • Fairy: for this we acted really creepy and used ours physicality
  • puck: We would pretend that we are throwing powder in peoples faces

After that exercise we went into pairs and we had to decide who was A and who was B, during this exercise the only word A was aloud to say was yes  and B was only aloud to say no, we are also not aloud to use our physicality e.g. Gestures. This was hard because we couldn't get our opinion across and we lost sight over what we where meant to be fighting about, furthermore we couldn't make our acting believable.

We then done the same exercise but we weren't aloud to speak this proved difficult to do because our partner did not understand what were trying to say and this could also mean that the audience would not be able to understand what we are trying to say.

Overall this exercise helped us learn that to be a believable actor you need to use your physicality and your voice, you also need to know what your objectives are because without them you wont know how to act out your lines properly

The three things that effect your tactics are

  • The mood your in
  • Who your talking to
  • Your objective in the scene

advantages and disadvantages of the 4 characters

Trickster
5

stop in the name of love exercise and 4 characters exercise

In the stop in the name of love exercise we had to be a Amoeba in the beginning and then you would go to a person and play rock paper scissors if you won you would go up to a fish, bird then monkey and then if you won after monkey you would stop and then sing "stop in the name of love" and the first one would win.
We done this exercise to gain some energy and to wake ourselves up.

The next exercise we did was we had to perform an action for 4 commonly found characters in Shakespeares plays those 4 characters were:

● Sovereign- uptight, responsible, wears a crown
The action we performed was we put both our hands on our heads to act as crowns
we had to walk like we had a long cape to represent the power the sovereign hold in the kingdom
● Warror- they are very alert, ready for action
The action we did was put our left arm in above our head the arm represents a shield we carry around with us. Also our right hand is pointing to symbolise the sword
●Carer- selfless and open
the action we did is when we see someone we fling our arms open likevwevare going to give them a hug, and the arms should be really wide open.
●Trickster- naughty, or a joker, likes to divert attention
The action we did was when we encountered someone we would spin around to the left and click their fingers and give them a thumbs up

Then we had lines and we had to see which line went with which character
"Lord what these mortals be?" -sovereign
"Here villian drawn and ready" -warrior
"Pretty, soul" -carer
"I'll put a girdle round the earth in forty minutes" -trickster

we then found out that all the lines were puck's this made us see that one character has so many different qualities, which also helps us try to figure out all the different qualities in our characters.

A Midsummer Night's Dream Assessment sheet

Monday Shakespeare lesson

3 sentence words
in this exercise in pairs we said lines from a midsummer nights dream in the points of Demetrius and Helena while doing one action out of 3 depending on which line they were the first one is probe: question the other person or audience
Hook: drawing in the audience or the other character
Dismissal: dismissing the other person or ending the conversation
We did this to show which ones are stressed helping us understand the text more and characters relationship with the other character
The underlined words are the stressed words.
The character Helena used more hook lines because her objective was to try and draw Demetrius in, try get him to  fall in love with her.
Demetrius used more dismissal lines because his objective was to get Helena to get away from him.

The insult generator
The insult generator helped us understand more about shakesperian words and how to pronounce it better
My 3 words were:
Rank, onion-eyed, measle

Exercises we did on the first lesson

Exercises we did on the first lesson

the first exercise we did was we had to pick 2 people to battle but first we had to blindfold their eyes and there was 2 rolled up pieces of paper on the floor they had to find while blindfolded when they found it they had to hit each other the first person who gets hit loses. We did this to use our senses and find people without our eye sight.

Another exercise was you had 2 people on either side of the stick and you had to pick it up using one finger, but you must not drop the stick and you had to walk around at different levels and speeds.

In the next exercise we done the same stick exercise but this time we had to feel different feelings and make it obvious what they were without acting out.

What I think about a midsummer nights dream

What I think about a Midsummer Nights Dream

So far I think midsummer nights dream is quite a comedic play with some darker issues, for example is covers drugs, as the characters: Demetrius, Lysander and Titania get drugged by something that makes them fall in love with the first person they meet.
Also Titania gets date "raped" forced to love somebody without her consent, but some of the language in the play was hard to understand but i still somehow understood the story it was telling.
